Johannesburg [South Africa], Sept.1 : Spanish tennis maestro Rafael Nadal strolled into the third round of the US Open with a dominant straight-sets victory over Andreas Seppi at Flushing Meadows, New York.
The 14-time Grand Slam champion defeated Italy's Seppi 6-0, 7-5, 6-1 in the men's singles event to set up a clash with Russian Andrey Kuznetsov for a place in the round of 16, Sport24 reported.
The match also saw the new roof over Arthur Ashe Stadium slid shut for the first time when light rain began falling in the second set.
Meanwhile, French Open champion Garbine Muguruza and Wimbledon runner-up Milos Raonic crashed out of the US Open following their shocking second round defeats at Flushing Meadows.
Third seeded Spaniard Muguruza was beaten 7-5, 6-4 by Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova in the women's singles event, while 120-ranked Ryan Harrison of the United States claimed a stunning 6-7 (4/7), 7-5, 7-5, 6-1 win over Raonic.
