Madrid [Spain], Sept.6 : Spain kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign on a winning note as they crushed Liechtenstein 8-0 in the opening Group G clash in Leon on Tuesday.
Spain remained dominated throughout the match, with Diego Costa, David Silva and Alvaro Morata all scoring two goals each.
It was in the 10th minute of the match when Chelsea star striker Costa opened the scoring for Spain, goal.com reported.
Ten minutes after the first half, Spain doubled their lead via midfielder Sergi Roberto followed by goals from Silva and midfielder Vitolo in the 59th and 60th minute respectively.
Costa then scored his second goal of the match just six minutes later before Alvaro Morata came as his substitute and struck two back-to-back goals in the 82nd and 83rd minute.
Silva, however, ensured to give his side with a perfect finish by pulling one back in the last minute.
Spain will next lock horns with Italy, which registered a 3-1 win over Israel in their opening group clash.
