London [England], Sept.6 : Midfielder Gareth Bale scored twice as Wales kicked off their World Cup qualifying campaign with a thumping 4-0 win over Moldova in their Group D clash at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday.
Striker Sam Vokes put his side ahead in the 38th minute of the match before midfielder Joe Allen doubled the lead by scoring his first goal for Wales, just a minute prior to half-break, the Guardian reported.
Bale then pulled one back for his side in the 51st minute before piling further misery on Moldova through a penalty corner to wrap up a 4-0 win.
The last two goals have now put the Real Madrid star ahead of Trevor Ford and Ivor Allchurch in second place on the Wales' all-time top scorer list and just four behind record holder Ian Rush.
Wales will next lock horns with Austria at Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna on October 6..
