Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], Sept. 12 : Former hockey captain-turned-politician Pargat Singh on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
"I today resigned from the primary membership of SAD. However, I did not get any notice but I wanted the Speaker to tell the people because I don't want to violate the laws," Singh told reporters.
He submitted his resignation to party president and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal. Pargat Singh and cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu recently launched a new party, Aawaaz-E-Punjab, with an eye on the upcoming Punjab polls.
Singh, the former SAD MLA from Jalandhar Cantt, was recently expelled from the party on charges of indulging in anti-party activities.
