Kathmandu [Nepal], Sept. 13 : Nepal Airlines Corporation aircraft on Tuesday suffered a tyre burst while landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu.
The passengers have been evacuated and the runway is being cleared to tow the aircraft away, reports the Himalayan Times.
The plane had arrived from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and suffered a minor damage after the major landing gear was detached, reports suggest.
The aircraft is said have been force -landed by pilots Captain Vijay Lama and Sanjay Poudel and all 150 passengers including an infant and eight crew members are reportedly safe.
Captain Lama said that the Air Traffic Control Tower quickly alerted him that wheel no. 2 was detached towards the runway while he was conducting a touchdown roll. So far, the TIA authorities is said to have closed the runway following the incident for an hour. All the flights to New Delhi, Dubai, Hong Kong, Bangkok and Mumbai is said to have been cancelled until further notice.
