LS nod for over Rs 21K cr additional expenditure sought

New Delhi, Nov 28 : Government on Thursday sought approval of Parliament to authorize gross additional expenditure of Rs 21,246.16 crore in the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants (SDFG) for financial year 2019-20, with proposals involving net cash outgo aggregated to Rs 18,995.51 crore.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved in the Lok Sabha the Supplementary Demands for Grants that includes 64 Grants and two Appropriations.

"Approval of the Parliament is sought to authorize gross additional expenditure of Rs 21,246.16 crore.

Of this, the proposals involving net cash outgo aggregate to Rs 18,995. 51 crore and gross additional expenditure, matched by savings of the Ministries or Departments or by enhanced receipts or recoveries aggregates to Rs 2,249.37 crore," said the introductory note of SDFG.



Besides, token provision of Rs 128 lakh is being sought, one lakh for each item of expenditure, for enabling re-appropriation of savings in cases involving New Service or New Instrument of Service, it said.



The major items of additional expenditure includes Rs 1,500 crore for Ministry of Defence to meet additional expenditure towards payment of Pay and Allowances of Army, Rs 2,500 crore for Department of Financial Services for recapitalization of Insurance companies, Rs 8,820.62 crore for Ministry of Home Affairs for a grant to Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
