New Delhi [India], Sept 15 : The Indian football team on Thursday made an encouraging progress in the latest Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings, climbing up four places to 148th in the list.
India, under the tutelage of Stephen Constantine, continued their slow and steady progress following their historic 4-1 win over higher-ranked Puerto Rico earlier this month.
Earlier, India had jumped 11 places to 152 in the FIFA rankings after recording a 7-1 aggregate win over Laos in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying playoff in July.
Among the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) list, Iran are leading at 37, with Australia at 45 and Korea Republic at 47.
India, meanwhile, continued to dominate the rankings among the South Asian Football Federation teams as Maldives are now placed 165th, Bangladesh 185th, Nepal 186th, Bhutan 189th, Sri Lanka 193rd and Pakistan 194th.
