New Delhi, March 29 : The Delhi SIkh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Sunday appealed to common citizens and corporate houses to donate money or grocery items for the poor and marginalised at any of the nearest Gurdwaras to arrange food for the needy people during the 21-day nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
DSGMC President Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Sunday made an appeal to all citizens to donate grocery items, ration in form of rice, pulses, floor, vegetable, spices etc.
at nearest Gurdwaras to feed around one lakh migrant labours, street children, homeless citizens, coolies and daily wage earners daily in close coordination with Delhi government authorities at different places near their doorsteps.
Sirsa said that at present DSGMC is providing 'langar' to around 50,000 persons daily and aims to double the number in coming days.
He said that DSGMC also plans to provide dry ration, vegetable and groceries items to needy persons who are living with their families in slum areas so as entire family food needs could be met.
Sirsa said that donation in form of ration and cash will help DSGMC authorities Ato keep people at home to fight Covid-19.
He said that the donations in cash will help DSGMC to face the challenges in terms of cash and ration to continue present practice to take langar door to door so that no one sleeps hungry in National Capital.
He said that the donors can donate at any of the nearest Gurdwara Managed by DSGMC or transfer the money directly at Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee bank account.
Sirsa said that at present 'langar' is being prepared at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Gurdwara Sis Ganj, Gurdwara Majnu Ka Tilla and Gurdwara Bala Sahib and added that plans have been made to prepare Langars at Guru Tegh Bahadur engineering institutes at Rajouri Garden and other 19 Sikh education institutions run by DSGMC in order to cook food nearest places so as hot and fresh food is ensured to all the people at their doorstep.
