Vibha Bakshi’s ‘Son Rise’ wins at New York film fest

Mumbai, Aug 3 : National Award-winning filmmaker Vibha Bakshi is elated that her documentary, Son Rise, won the Best Feature Documentary award at the New York Indian Film Festival.

Bakshi says it is a recognition for the gender-rights heroes of India.

"We are thrilled at the news! This award is the recognition for our incredible gender-rights heroes from Haryana who are rising for women's rights in India.

We salute the people of Haryana for their courage and conviction to power change. This film is not just a Haryana story or a story from India. The issue of gender bias is a global reality," Bakshi said.

"Son Rise" is based on three accounts that address the issue of gender inequality, which lead to sex crimes and bride trafficking.

It puts the spotlight on the gender-right heroes of Haryana, who are changing the narrative on gender inequality and gender justice in India.

It is set in the Delhi-NCR area, Delhi, Haryana, Ambala and a few areas of Punjab.

Bakshi's earlier film "Daughters Of Mother India", had also won wide acclaim.
