S.Korea reports 926 new Covid-19 cases, tally reaches 50,591

Seoul, Dec 21 : Amid an unabated resurgence, South Korea on Monday reported 926 new coronavirus cases, raising the country's total infection tally to 50,591.

For the past week, the daily average number of infections was 1,015, reports Xinhua news agency.

Of the new cases, 327 were Seoul residents and 237 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Thirty-four were imported, lifting the combined figure to 5,116.

Twenty-four more fatalities were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 698.



The total fatality rate stood at 1.38 per cent.

A total of 433 more patients were discharged from quarantine after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 35,155.



The total recovery rate was 69.49 per cent.

Since January 3, the country has tested more than 3.71 million people, among whom 3,516,832 tested negative for the virus and 146,438 are being checked.
