Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], Oct. 31 : The Madhya Pradesh Police on Monday confirmed that the eight SIMI terrorists, who escaped from the Bhopal Central Jail this morning, have been killed in cross firing.
Yogesh Chaudhary, Inspector General of Bhopal, said the terrorists possessed weapons and were killed when they were trying to flee.
"They were killed in cross firing. It was a big challenge and the team accepted it properly," he added. Providing details of the incident, Chaudhary said the eight terrorists fled from the Bhopal Central Jail at around 2:00 a.m.
"We were exploring all possibilities to get hold of the terrorists post their escape from prison. We received certain inputs and a joint team of the Bhopal district police, STF (Special Task Force) and CTG.
The team located the eight terrorists. They fired when the terrorists were trying to flee. All of them have been killed," he said. The SIMI terrorists escaped from the jail after killing a security guard and scaling the prison wall using bedsheets.
The terrorists tied up one guard and killed a head constable by slitting his throat with steel plate and glass at around 2 a.m.
The terrorists then used ropes fashioned out of bedsheets to climb the boundary walls. Five officers including the Jail Superintendent have been suspended after the incident. The action has been taken on the direction of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Chouhan told the media that Additional Director General of the jail has also been removed after the incident.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke to Chouhan and sought for a detail report on the incident.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh earlier lambasted the jail administration for their negligence.
