New Delhi [India], Nov.13 : Actor Suniel Shetty is one among the many celebrities supporting the government's decision to scrap 500 and 1000 rupee currency notes.
The 'Dhadkan' star, however, says that the poor should be exempted and given the nod to use old notes for their daily needs.
"Don't let people buy cars, property and houses etc. but the hurdles faced by the poor and middle class because of this decision should be kept in mind and the dates to use old notes should be extended for basic amenities like food and kids' schooling," says Shetty.
"Otherwise it is a wonderful decision and my family and I are in full support. Everyone should unite and get through this situation together but for the poor, extension should be given," he adds.
The 55-year-old actor agrees this step will cause difficulty for some time but states that there was no other solution to curb the menace of black money.
"Had this step not been taken, there was no other better way. Agreed it is going to cause inconvenience to all but what is life without some inconvenience. This decision has both pros and cons. Positives being that the funding for terrorism, printing of fake notes outside India and its misuse needed to be stopped," he told ANI.
Suggesting that banks should operate for 24 hours for a few days, Shetty says: "Having said that, I salute the bankers who have shown that when time comes they are ready to put in their best and work day and night.".
