New Delhi [India], Nov. 18 : Demanding an apology from the government for imposing unnecessary burden on the common man with the demonetisation move, the Congress Party on Friday alleged that this decision was a desperate attempt on part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build his image.
"The people are suffering and many have lost their lives in past ten days and all these things are happening because of one person, who is trying to build his image with this move.
In the past 10 days, the government has changed the norms 18 times. This is what they were preparing for from the past ten months?" Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told in a press conference here.
He also said that the Centre should apologise to the families of those 55 people, who lost their lives after the demonetisation of high-value currency, adding that they should be compensated for it.
"It will take three months to bring new 2000 currency across the nation and eight months to completely replace old 500 currency notes with a new one.
Even the government itself doesn't know what it is doing," he said. Both houses of the Parliament failed to conduct business for the third consecutive day of the Winter Session today as the opposition refused to halt its protests against the demonetisation move.
