Wolff calls Mercedes to remain ‘calm’

Johannesburg [South Africa], Dec. 25 : Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has told his team to remain calm and prepare for the next F1 season as the search goes on to find a replacement for world champion Nico Rosberg for 2017.

Mercedes have been seeking a replacement for Rosberg since the German shocked the sporting world by announcing a sudden retirement from Formula One, barely a week after winning his maiden world championship title.

Reports have been surfacing that William's driver Valteri Bottas will be replacing the German. However, it is believed that three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton vetoed a proposed move to sign out of contract hot prospect Pascal Werhlein.

According to Sport24, The Morning Star have published an email allegedly written by Wolff that reads: "Our position in the spotlight puts every decision taken and every word spoken under an intense microscope." "They are debated passionately among our fans and interpreted by the media." "But there has been enough talking, now.

This is the period for calm and considered reflection; to savour our achievements and prepare for the next campaign," the mail reads.

Meanwhile, Hamilton has insisted that his team must consult him on who would replace Rosberg next season before also warning them against signing big names like Fernando Alonso.

Wolff has also said that Hamilton's former McLaren team-mate Alonso would be an appropriate choice. Mercedes would not name Rosberg's replacement until at least January 3..
