London [UK], Feb. 15 : Sticking to his guns with his retirement plan for London this year, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has insisted that he has accomplished everything he wants to in athletics and has no regrets about his decision for calling off the curtains.
Bolt on Tuesday night pipped the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and LeBron James to win the 'Sportsman of the Year' trophy for a record-equalling fourth time at the Laureus World Awards in Monaco while gymnast Simone Biles clinched the top honour in the women's category.
"I've just done everything I wanted to do in the sport," Bolt was quoted as saying by mirror.co.uk. "I asked Michael Johnson the same question, 'why did you retire when you were on top?'. He said the same - he had done everything he had wanted to do in athletics so there was no reason to stay in the sport.
Now I understand what he means," he added. The 30-year-old sprinter has already asserted that he plans to retire from the sport after the 2017 World Championships scheduled to take place between August5-13 in London.
The Jamaican sprinter, considered as the greatest sprinter of all-time, completed a 'treble treble' of 100m, 200m and 4x100m Olympic titles at the 2016 Rio Games, but had his 2008 relay gold stripped last month after team mate Nesta Carter's re-tested sample showed traces of a banned substance.
Carter was part of the Jamaican quartet that won the 4x100m in the Beijing Olympics. However, Carter has said he will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport..
