Egypt top court acquits former president Mubarak of all charges

New York [U.S.A.], Mar. 03 : Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was acquitted of charges of playing a role in the killing of protesters during the Arab Spring uprising that led to his ouster.

The Court of Cassation's final ruling on Thursday saw Mubarak walk free. According to CNN, Mubarak was accused of killing hundreds of people during the 2011 protests that ended his 30-year rule, sweeping away the final legal hurdle to Mubarak's release from detention.

Amnesty International said at least 840 people were killed and more than 6,000 injured during the 18 days of street protests in Egypt.
