Taliban release 235 hostages in northern Afghanistan

Mazar-i-Sharif [Afghanistan], Aug 8 : At least 235 hostages were rescued from the Taliban in northern Sar-e-Pul province of Afghanistan on Tuesday.

According to media reports, this incident has occurred days after the militants brutally massacred dozens of people in this province.

A spokesman for the provincial governor said, "This evening 235 people including women and children were released from Mirzawalang as a result of mediation by the local elders and provincial officials.

They have been safely evacuated to Sar-e Pul city, but there are still an unknown number of people being kept hostage there".

However, sources revealed that earlier in the week, more than 50 people were killed and the brutal act was reportedly carried out jointly by the Taliban insurgents and ISIS loyalists.
