New York, Aug. 18 : An American family of Pakistani origin has in a (Dollar) 50 million federal lawsuit claimed that a 12-year-old Muslim boy with learning disabilities was forced by the officials of a school in New York to sign a false confession stating that he was a terrorist.
According to the lawsuit, Nashwan Uppal, a US citizen of Pakistani background and a seventh grader at East Islip middle school in New York, was harassed by bullies, who called him a terrorist and also demanded to know what he planned to blow up next, reports the Dawn.
Without understanding what they were saying due to his disabilities, Uppal then responded that he would blow up the fence outside the school.
After his response, the school officials yelled at Nashwan and instructed him to admit that he was a member of the militant Islamic State group before forcing him to sign a false confession.
The lawsuit also says that police officers were called and they later searched Nashwan's home. A spokesman for the East Islip Union Free School District on Long Island, however, declined to comment on the report.
