Air pollution: Delhi HC asks CAG to conduct audit for felled trees

New Delhi [India], Mar. 16 : The Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to conduct an audit into number of trees felled for various projects and disposal of timber by the government authorities.

The High Court also asked the CAG to file a report on the amount received by various agencies including MCDs, CPWD, NHAI etc for cutting of trees for various projects since 2010.

The court asked where the timber from the cut trees has gone and why compensatory forestation was not done.

The court was hearing the issue of depleting forest cover in Delhi leading to increased air pollution.
