R.K. Nagar [Chennai] [India], Apr. 8 : TTV Dinakaran, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Amma faction candidate for the R.K.
Nagar bye-election on Saturday got a diehard supporter who devised a unique way to campaign for his leader.
The supporter first got his head tonsured and then, a painter painted his head with a hat, the election symbol of Dinakaran.
The bye-poll to the R K Nagar constituency is being held following the death of AIADMK supremo and former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on December 5, 2016.
AIADMK Amma Deputy General Secretary, Dinakaran has found himself in the midst of controversy. He is the nephew of jailed party general secretary VK Sasikala, a longtime companion of late Jayalalithaa.
The opposition parties contesting in the prestigious R.K. Nagar assembly constituency have alleged that Dinakaran is using 'money power' to win the voters, a majority of whom are very poor.
A 45- second video surfaced on Wednesday, which shows supporters of AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran handing out Rs 4,000 to each voter inside a house.
Every time the man hands out Rs 4,000, he is seen urging voters to vote for 'the hat' symbol. Dinakaran dubbed the video as 'fabricated' and alleged that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is behind it.
The DMK spokesperson A Saravanan has accused Dinakaran of using big money to woo voters. "There's rampant buying of votes by Sasikala camp to somehow win or to get polls postponed as they can't win," said Saravanan.
