New Delhi [India], June 15 : Sita Pallacholla, Founder and CEO, The Angel Hub, had organised the third edition of The Angel Summit in Mumbai at ISDI.
The Angel Summit was previously held in Hyderabad and Delhi. It was a daylong event on women in business, which hosted 30 of India's most influential leaders as speakers and 400 delegates.
The summit connected business leaders from diverse fields to women and women-led businesses and highlighted some of the issues they face in the professional and social context.
Providing support and visibility to businesses helmed by women is also one of the primary goals of The Angel Summit.
Therefore, a session was held where 10 women-led businesses from across India had pitched to a group of curated investors and mentors which was highly successful and appreciated.
Eminent speakers included Apurva Purohit (President of the Jagran group) Sasha Mirchandani (Founder and MD of KAE Capital), Chhavi Rajawat (Sarpanch of Soda village, Rajasthan), Trisha Shetty (Founder and CEO, SheSays), Ameera Shah (Founder and MD of Metropolis Healthcare Ltd.), Priya Naik, CEO, Samhita Ventures, Dr.
Indu Shahani, Former Sheriff of Mumbai and Chair, ISDI and ISME, Paromita Vohra, Film maker (and) Founder of Agents of Ishq, Miss Malini, Tara Sharma and many more.
The theme of The Angel Summit, Mumbai's edition was "Bridge the Gap", which was focused on individuals and organisations sharing their thoughts and resources to bridge the gaps that are proving to be barriers to create thriving work environments for women.
The event had started with a note from Sita Pallacholla, Founder and CEO, The Angel Hub which is the parent company organizing The Angel Summit.
She firmly said, 'Equal opportunity only happens with equal dialogue. The speakers and audience had a spectacular day of discussion and debate with leaders who spoke at The Angel Summit.
Apurva Purohit, President of Jagran Group, "I have noticed that hard working women suddenly change after marriage.
They become docile as they seek permission from in-laws for out station work trips or for long hours at work.
We need to help them cross the psychological barrier as women need to put themselves out in order to lead the game".
Entrepreneurs like Miss Malini and Tara Sharma had great business advice for the audience. Miss Malini suggested the guests to pick that one passion or thing which they love the most and turn that into their career! While Tara Sharma suggested to not follow what others are doing but to find who we are before following the herd race.
Her suggestion was to not run after funding but to scale up the business on its merit. Trisha Shetty, Founder, SheSays gave a very hard hitting speech to the audience. She said "Contrary to the popular belief, lower middle class are brave as they report rape cases and also report everyone who discriminates against them.
For them justice is reporting to the police, unfortunately the educated lot does not talk about it and try to camouflage their pain to protect the family's name".
"It's like the event [helped] to build a sort of a sisterhood," commented Naiyya Saggi, the Founder and CEO of the childcare-centric start-up, Baby Chakra Paromita Vohra (Filmmaker and Founder, Agents of Ishq) outlined the challenges of modern romance while Ameera Shah (Managing Director, Metropolis Healthcare Ltd) shared her success story with the audience.
The Leaders Without Borders panel highlighted how we can level the playing field for men and women, the Million Dollar Dream panel focused on the challenges of building a successful company and the World of Equals panel discussed how we can effectively bridge the gap.
The strong male presence at the summit is also seen as one of its strengths as the male speakers shared their views on being partners and advocating this movement while the women leaders delivered some power-packed, relevant speeches.
