Sanjay Dutt all set to work in the next Munnabhai film

But then Obama was President no more. A hunt for another script started. Now Sanjay Dutt has let it be known to Hirani that he is keen to start Munnabhai 3 the soonest.

Says a source in the know, “All of Baba’s films since his return from prison have failed. While the bio-pic on his life Sanju has been a big success. This proves Baba is very popular among the masses. He needs to do something he is best at. And that’s Munnabhai.”

Arjun Kapoor roped in for Ek Villain sequel

Ekta Kapoor and director Mohit Suri are now planning a sequel to their very successful 2014 crime thriller Ek Villain where Sidhath Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor were tormented to breaking point by villain Riteish Deshmukh.

Arjun Kapoor roped in for Ek Villain sequel

Yes, the affable Deshmukh actually played a coldblooded serial killer in Ek Villain. We would now have Arjun Kapoor playing the title role in a sequel. Arjun is ready to step into the dark zone with Ek Villain 2.

But it is doubtful that Sidharth Malhotra, as much in need of a hit as Arjun Kapoor, would continue with his protagonist’s role in Ek Villain 2, as the antagonist’s role has proven to be a scene-stealer in the first film. The same is the case with the Dhoom series where every major star wants to play the antagonist.

Says a source, “Ekta Kapoor wants to turn Ek Villain into her production house’s Dhoom franchise. The problem here is who will play the formal hero when the villain has the author-backed role?”

Mohit Suri who directed the first Ek Villain is back on the saddle. Suri and Arjun Kapoor have quite a rapport going between them ever since they collaborated on the screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s Half Girlfriend. Kapoor who is busy with Ashutosh Gowariker’s historical Panipat will get into this project next year.

Post War Tiger Shroff’s Baaghi 3 stunts to be amplified

Tiger Shroff's panther-like moves in Siddharth Anand's War has set a new paradigm for the young actor's action scenes. While both Hrithik and Tiger are being duly applauded for their deadly action moves, it is Tiger who must compete with himself as his next film Baaghi 3 boasts of never- before action. Informed sources say, producer Sajid Nadiadwala intends to up the action ante even further after War.

Post War Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 3 stunts to be amplified

"It is no doubt a problem. In Baaghi 3 the makers intended to take Tiger's action to another level. But now that level has already been reached," says the source. Sources say producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Ahmed Khan have decided to drop plans of sending Tiger to Israel to train the form of martial arts known as Krav Maga as this form of action is seen to be too close to what is shown in War. The search for something beyond what is shown in War is on.

Jubilant at the response his action scenes in War have received Tiger is also concerned about the growing expectations of the audience. "It is a problem, no doubt. I don't only have to compete with Mission Impossible and The Avengers but also with myself. I am expected to raise the level of action with every film. It is a challenge but a welcome challenge," says Tiger.

Salman Khan to play a cop in both Dabangg 3 and Radhe

Looks like the colour khaki is stuck to the superstar for better or for worse. After playing the cop innumerable times Salman Khan is back at it, this time in a double bill. Salman Khan is caught in a dilemma of duplicity. We all know he plays a cop in Dabangg 3 which opens in December. Now one hears that he’s also cast as a cop in his next release (said to be titled Radhe but now altered as the original title doesn’t have too much of an Eid-like ring to it) for Eid 2020.

Salman Khan to play a cop in both Dabangg 3 and Radhe

And both the films are directed by Prabhu Dheva!

Frantic efforts are on to bring a reasonable if not a radical level of dissimilarity between Salman’s two back-to-back cop acts. Says a source close to the development, “It’s an unforeseen dilemma; one that could have been avoided if Salman and Sanjay Leela Bhansali had not parted ways over Inshallah their Eid release. Now there is no choice but to go ahead with another cop film right after Dabangg 3 as Salman loved the story that was suggested to him by Prabhu Dheva as a replacement for Inshallah.”

And as Salmaniacs would agree, what difference does it make whether Salman plays a cop or a killer. Salman is Salman.

Kartik Aaryan in Neerja director Ram Madhvani’s next?

Kartik Aaryan is going places. From what one hears, many of the more interesting directors in the Hindi film industry are desirous of working with him. The latest filmmaker to apparently fall for the Kartik charisma is Ram Madhvani who last made the trailblazing Neerja with Sonam K Ahuja in an award-winning role and performance.

Kartik Aaryan in Neerja director Ram Madhvani’s next

Sources close to the development say the director and the young actor have met on several occasions. “They’ve had very fruitful meetings a number of times. Ram has narrated a subject to Kartik which he really likes and they will soon start work on the project,” says the source, adding that the project would be entertaining but would have relevance far beyond entertainment.

Kartik’s career has been soaring ever since the Luv Ranjan directed rom-com Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety turned into a money-spinner. Since then he has been working with the best of the directors and of course romancing the most popular heroines.

Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan will be Robert De Niro’s Raging Bull?

While director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and his leading man Farhan Akhtar refuse to disclose whom their boxing bonanza Toofan is based on, sources inform that Farhan’s role models are Mohammad Ali and Robert de Niro in Raging Bull.

Farhan Akhtar’s Toofan will be Robert De Niro’s Raging Bull

While the boxer’s resilience willpower passion and spiritualism are modelled on Ali, the physical preparation to play the boxer to perfection has taken Farhan into months of rigorous preparation that entailed a strict dietary regimen and also complete focus on the project on hand. Says a source close to the project, “As long as it takes for Toofan to be completed, Farhan remains fully committed to the project. There are no professional distractions whatsoever. Farhan has not taken up any other acting assignment after The Sky Is Pink which is now complete and awaiting release in October.”

According to the source Farhan won’t be taking on any directorial or acting assignments for the next one year. “In any case Farhan has not directed any film since Don 2 in 2011. As for acting, Farhan is currently living the boxer’s life,” says the source. One recalls Farhan’s full-scale commitment playing Milkha Singh in Rakeysh Ompraksh Mehra’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

One recalls a physical preparation as intense as Farhan’s only once before, when Rajkummar Rao played a man trapped away from human contact for weeks in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Trapped. Says Mehra, “Farhan and I share a very special rapport. It’s to do with our commitment to tell a story about an individual whose life has a universal resonance.”

Priyanka Chopra says all is well with Salman Khan…but is it?

It is very unlikely that Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra will ever be seen in a film together. In fact one hears Salman has already ‘recommended’ (read: locked in) Katrina Kaif for his new Eid 2020 release to be directed by Prabhu Dheva.

Priyanka Chopra says all is well with Salman Khan…but is it

A source says, “Bhai plays a cop again in the Eid 2020 release. This would be two back-to-back releases Dabangg 3 followed by the Eid release, where Salman plays a cop. To avoid a sense of sameness his team members suggested Priyanka Chopra since she has no films on hand after The Sky Is Pink releases in October.”

Apparently Salman’s reply was a vehement no. “At such a short notice the choice was between Jacqueline Fernandez and Katrina Kaif. With Jacqueline, Salman is already doing Kick 2. He might as well give Katrina the Eid gift,” says the source.

Salman and Katrina have scored three Eid hits Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat.
