In the North, War is kind. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has been forced to take the backseat in the Hindi belt. No two ways about it. A major distributor in Delhi-UP says, “War is currently the most in-demand film. Tickets are sold out almost everywhere in the advance bookings. The nation wants to know what the Hrithik Roshan - Tiger Shroff war is about.”
Comments Bihar distributor Roshan Singh, “As far as the north is concerned it is definitely War as no.1. Chiranjeevi is the undisputed king of the South. But up North, he hardly has a market. They’ve tried to promote the film through Bachchan Saab. But everyone knows Bachchan Saab only has a guest appearance in the film.”
Kishan Damani a prominent distributor in Bihar says. “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has a good chance of catching up with War. Provided it is high on content then it will definitely make a dent in the War market. However, at the moment War is ruling the box office advance in the North while Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is King in the South.”
Damani also points out the fact that Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is a late starter. “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’s advance opened on Tuesday due to late censoring and showcasing.”

Ranbir Kapoor is all set to share screen space with Deepika Padukone all over again in Luv Ranjan’s next directorial venture which will also star Ajay Devgn. There was plenty of the will-she-won’t-she brand of conjecture in sections of the press as the director’s name sprang up in the MeToo movement last year. However, all speculation about Deepika’s presence in Luv Ranjan’s film can be put to rest.
While the director chooses to refrain from comment a source close to him confirms, “All the three leads players are Ranjan’s first choices. There was never any dithering. The uncertainty was only in the media’s mind. Ajay Devgn, Ranbir Kapoor, and Deepika Padukone loved their roles from the start.”
The untitled film starts shooting in the middle of next year. The exciting part of the casting is that Deepika will be paired with Devgan and not Ranbir. We can always trust Luv Ranjan to bring about a kahaani mein twist.

Here is news for those eagerly awaiting the Hrithik Roshan - Tiger Shroff war that begins this week. Director Siddharth Anand and producers Yash Raj Films already have plans to turn War into a full-fledged franchise like Dhoom.
According to a well-placed source, there is ample room to carry the War story forward. "Hrithik and Tiger's characters have been written to move forward into a franchise. And their chemistry onscreen is so kinetic that after seeing the end product producer Aditya Chopra is more determined than ever to take the Hrithik - Tiger combo forward. Of course it all depends on how the film fares."
Many times plans to do a sequel/franchise are thwarted if a film fails. A case in point is the Prabhas starrer Saaho. It may be mentioned here that Yash Raj already has a booming franchise film Dhoom to its credit. However that product seems struck after its director Vijay Krishna Acharya delivered a dud titled Thugs Of Hindostan.
Ever Since Shah Rukh Khan decided to take a sabbatical-- that's what all smart professionals do when they hit level Zero -- there have been rumours of the King Khan being in this or the other project. The last project one heard Shah Rukh being reportedly associated with was Ali Abbas Zafar's next. Though the actor denied the reports the fact is Shah Rukh and Ali Abbas are really looking at coming together for a project, though nothing has been finalized yet.
The latest reports suggest that Shah Rukh Khan is doing Hindi remake of Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill where, the reports go on to suggest, Shah Rukh will play the villain Bill. However sources close to the Khan seem highly amused by the rumours. Says a source, "Kill Bill? Really?! First of all that is completely the female hero's film. So unless the makers plan to turn Uma Thurman's character into a male, there is no way Shah Rukh will touch this film even with a bargepole. He is certainly not playing the villain in any film at the moment. Shah Rukh was done with villainy at the outset of his career with his villainous trilogy in Darr, Baazigar and Anjaam".
Most Bollywood superstars are now saying no to negative roles for the sake of political correctness. Incidentally Anurag Kashyap also wanted to do Kill Bill with Radhika Apte playing Uma Thurman's role.

Ever since Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy was chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars this year there has been a hue and cry about the validity of the selection. There were tweets by droves suggesting alternative films from the past one year that were more eligible. But Aparna Sen who headed the jury for the selection of the Oscar entry is adamant that only Gully Boy deserved to make the cut.
In an exclusive chat with this writer, Aparna Sen says, “Gully Boy got the most number of votes. Because of its overall artistic merit as well as its popular appeal, it was felt by the jury to be the fittest film to represent India at the Oscars, which is essentially a popular award.”
However, there is a storm of protest brewing against Gully Boy going to the Oscars because of its striking similarities to the Curtis Hanson-directed 2012 Hollywood film 8 Mile. Though Zoya Akhtar has vehemently denied Gully Boy’s affinity to 8 Mile, the Oscars committee is known to disqualify any film for even a whiff of suspicion about its originality.

Warner Brothers has decided to move ahead its India release of the worldwide international hit The Joker, the Todd Philips-directed drama featuring Joaquin Phoenix is already a frontrunner for the Oscars and expected to be one of the biggest hits of the year. In a surprise move, Warner Brothers has decided to release The Joker on October 2, alongside Yash Raj Films’ War and the Chiranjeevi costume drama Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. The Joker was originally slated for an October 4 release.
“But Warner sees more wisdom in coming on the National holiday on October 2 with the other two Hindi blockbusters considering how talked-about The Joker has become the worldwide. Also, the film comes in a unique format. Though the spoken language will be only English, there will be Hindi subtitles. This eliminates the trouble of submitting the same film over and over again to the Central Board Of Film Certification in different dubbed languages and also spares the audience some atrocious dubbing and translation,” says a source from Warner Brothers.
The Joker has been cleared by the Censor Board with an ‘Adults Only’ certificate without a single visual cut and only two beeped out words: the ‘B’ word for women and the ‘D’ word for the male organ.
Remember how Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment had insisted on releasing the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees alongside Hrithik’s Kaabil? Well, it’s payback time now. In a sudden and unexpected move Yash Raj films has decided to dub their big Gandhi Jayanti release War featuring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff into three South Indian languages—Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam—besides Hindi.
This places the other big Gandhi Jayanti release Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy (originally in Telugu and dubbed into Hindi, Tamil and Malayalam) at a singular disadvantage, as the multi-language format was the major USP that this Telugu film was hoping to cash in on while competing with War in the National market.
A source close to Yash Raj reveals, “The decision to dub War into South Indian languages is taken in the light of the huge enthusiasm that the film’s trailer has whipped up. Yash Raj never expected this level of pan-India interest in their product. So they decided to make it more accessible in the South.”
Whatever the reason for expanding its bandwidth and reach, War will now give Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy a big fight everywhere in South India except of course, Andhra Pradesh where Chiranjeevi fans will make sure there is no competition for their iconic star’s most ambitious films.
For the rest of the country it an open war in multiple languages on the most peaceful day of the year. May Gandhiji’s soul rest in peace.

There are stories of how Bollywood’s handsomest couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt won’t be doing any more films together apart from Brahmastra which is turning out to be the longest-shooting and most expensive film Karan Johar has ever produced. Stories whisper about a possible rift between Ranbir and Alia dissuading them from working together in any other project.
But the truth about the couple shying away from extensive on-screen collaboration is far less grim and far more practical. With the couple committed to jointly shoot for Brahmastra for a good 150 days it makes no sense for them to be doing more films together at this point of time. Says a source close to Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, “Of course they get offers to work together all the time. But they don’t want to become like Dharmendra-Hema Malini, Bipasha Basu - John Abraham or Saif Ali Khan – Kareena Kapoor Khan. These couples were so visible to the public in real life the audience rejected their efforts to be seen together on screen.”
Alia Bhatt explains how clear the couple is on this issue. “Work is work, and our personal life won’t be carried on the sets. While shooting for Brahmastra we discuss only the shots and scenes. We don’t need to sign films together to spend time together.”

The ill-fated beleaguered Karan Johar-Sushant Singh Rajput project Drive has finally found a release. After several false starts and postponed release dates Drive, directed by Tarun Mansukhani (who once upon a time directed Dostana for Karan Johar’s production house) is now looking at an early release on Netflix.
The date is yet to be firmed in. But a source close to Dharma Productions reveals, “Karan Johar could not afford to take the risk of a theatrical release for Drive after the double debacle in 2019 of Kalank and Student Of The Year 2. Karan made every effort to spruce up the film, give it a slick spin and release in in theatres. But it was too risky. He had decided to shelve it when Netflix came forward to buy and stream Drive as part of their long-term deal with Karan Johar and Dharma Production.”
Drive will see Sushant and Jacqueline Fernandez together for the first time. They both play car-racing drivers. Apparently Sushant has done a nude scene in Drive which would have been problematic had the film been released theatrically. Now on Netflix, viewers can enjoy all of Sushant, uncensored.
