New Delhi [India], Apr. 9 : Even as the Committee of Administrators (CoA) in charge of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has sought intervention from the Supreme Court to adjudicate whether disqualified members can attend meetings, a Special General Meeting (SGM) will take place in New Delhi at 10 p.m.
today. It will be the first SGM meeting after the implementation of Lodha Panel reforms which axed Anurag Thakur, and other office bearers, from holding a post in the BCCI.
The meeting will be chaired by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri, as none of the four members of the Vinod Rai-led CoA will be present.
The CoA fears the SGM is likely to be attended by many former state and BCCI office bearers who became ineligible under the Lodha Committee recommendations which were approved by the court.
It is likely that former BCCI president N Srinivasan will also attend the meeting. The primary objective of the meeting will be the appointment of Indian Board's representatives to the International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings.
Apart from that, the meeting will also decide whether state associations will abide by the disqualification norms mentioned in the July 18 the judgement by the apex court and its order of January 2, 2017.
However, according to ESPNcricinfo, the COA in its submission has said that "for the upcoming Special General Meeting that has been called by the BCCI on April 9, 2017, each existing Member Association of the BCCI is required to send a nominee/representative to attend the same.
The CoA has been informed that such nominee/representative need not necessarily be an office bearer of the concerned Member Association.
It is possible that in some cases the nominees representative of a Member Association to the SGM scheduled on April 9, 2017, may be a person who would be disqualified to represent the Member Association if it is held that the FAQs form part of the reforms that the Committee of Administrators is required to implement." The COA has already barred disqualified members of the BCCI from attending the meeting.
