BCCI to announce name of new India coach before Lanka Tour

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 6 : Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) senior official Rajeev Shukla on Thursday said that the board will announce the name of the new head coach before Team India's tour to Sri Lanka which begins July 23.

"It was Anil Kumble's decision not to continue as coach of Team India. We will announce the name of the coach before Team India's tour to Sri Lanka," Shukla, head of BCCI Special Committee said.

Team India will play three Tests, five ODIs and one T20I against Sri Lanka. The Test series will start from July 26 and continue till August 16. The head coach position has been vacant since Kumble's resignation following India's 180-run defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan in the Champions Trophy final at the Oval on June 18.

Many names like Ravi Shastri, Venkatesh Prasad, Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Phil Simmons, Richard Pybus and Dodda Ganesh along with Lalchand Rajput are in fray for post of India head coach.

However, the BCCI invited fresh applications and the deadline was extended to July 9..
