New Delhi [India], Apr 14 : The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday castigated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for questioning West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to clear her stand over 'triple talaq' and said thatteh saffron party should not pretend to care for Muslim women, as it is killing their men on the name of cow vigilantism.
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said that both the BJP and Banerjee are making a mockery out of rights of Muslim women.
"Both BJP and Mamata Banerjee are making a mockery out of rights of Muslim women. If the BJP been was worried about Muslim women, then they would have not behaved like this with member of their families on the name of cow slaughter.
And even the Mamata Banerjee does nothing for women," Karat told ANI. Union law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad yesterday urged Banerjee to clear her stand on the issue of triple talaq.
"It is said that after Uttar Pradesh the maximum number of women affected by triple talaq is in West Bengal.
What have you (Mamata) got to say about these victims of triple talaq," Prasad said. "We want to ask the Chief Minister of West Bengal as to what is her stand as far as rank injustice to the victims of triple talaq is concerned," Prasad said.
