Chandigarh, March 20 : A day after a student who returned from Britain was diagnosed coronavirus positive in Chandigarh, the city on Friday tested four more positive cases, promoting authorities to impose a ban on gatherings of over 50 people.
Three of the positive cases comprised the student's mother, brother and domestic help.
They all have been undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 31.
The student's father tested negative, the Chandigarh administration said in a statement.
The fifth positive patient is a woman who returned from Britain and was earlier admitted to the PGIMER here.
All five are stable, authorities said.
Three other people who came into contact with her were quarantined at home.
Chandigarh Administrator V.P. Singh Badnore who reviewed preparedness asked the public to provide information about persons who have returned from abroad in the past 15 days.
Nearly 42 people have been quarantined in their own homes.
"As a precautionary measure, stickers will be pasted outside these houses to make public aware not to visit the said premises, as the same is under quarantine," the statement added.
