Washington D.C, August 2 : Pointing out the lack of diversity among the top five Miss Teen USA finalists, model Chrissy Teigen took to her Twitter page to express her disgust.
Posting a picture collage of the finalist, the 30-year-old social media expert wrote "Wow how can we choose from such a diverse bunch," reports Us magazine.
Tiegen, who debuted her modelling career in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2010, took the issue to a lighter note by posting, "It's fine.
Not their fault. I'm sure they are delightful women. Just funny, I'm not gonna write a think-piece on a damn pageant." However, several other people seconded her observation and accused the Miss Teen USA of being colour biased.
Soon, the micro-blogging site was flooded with the comments."The 3rd and 4th girl are literally the same person," one tweeter wrote, while another questioned: "Are they all the same person or..?".
The issue substantiated when it was revealed that Karlie Hay, who has been announced the first runner-up Miss North Carolina was taken into account for using racist language, a couple of years back.
However, Hay made a public apology and wrote on Instagram, "Several years ago, I had many personal struggles and found myself in a place that is not representative of who I am as a person.
I admit that I have used language publicly in the past which I am not proud of and that there is no excuse for.
Through hard work, education and thanks in large part to the sisterhood that I have come to know through pageants, I am proud to say that I am today a better person.".
