Agartala, Aug.12 : Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar's parents have expressed their satisfaction after the athlete's physio Sajad Ahamed Mir was rushed to the ongoing Rio Olympics to accompany her during the crucial Produnova vault jump in the finals.
Dipa and her coach Bishweshwar Nandi had earlier demanded the Sports Ministry to send her longtime physio to the Games to prepare her in the most crucial leap of her career, but these fell on deaf ears.
"When the Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel met Dipa and her coach at Rio Olympics and asked whether they need anything, the coach requested for the physio and after that Sajad had been rushed to Rio," confirmed Dipa's father Dulal Karmarar, a weight lifting coach of Sports Authority of India (SAI).
Meanwhile, Dipa's mother, Gauri Karmakar, said that she is relieved now to some extent as the physio will be with her when her daughter will go for one of the most dangerous vault ,which only handful of people try throughout the world.
"It is very risky and anything could happen even in case of a minor mistake. One of the five people go for this jump. I am very happy because if she faces any problem, the physio will be there to attend her. He was also there with her at Delhi. He easily understands her problem and that will be of great help," Gauri said. The 22-year-old gymnast from Tripura had earlier scripted history by becoming the first Indian to make the cut for the individual vault finals in her debut Olympic Games after finishing eighth in the qualifying round.
Karmakar will now return to the spotlight in the final that is slated for August 14..
