New Delhi [India], Nov 7 : India's sports education organization EduSports has announced the launch of an integrated sports education platform for adolescents and youth student populations in middle-high schools and colleges called MILES.
MILES is a multi-sport leadership development program that is led and executed by students themselves.
The curriculum is designed to help students develop leadership and social-emotional skills, besides improving their physical fitness using sports as a medium.
This pioneering program is currently running in Azim Premji University Bangalore, Karnataka, Universal Business School, Maharashtra and couple of leading K-12 schools in Tamil Nadu - engaging over 500 students.
MILES has a unique Learning Methodology for Leadership Development, based on Leading2Play Framework, developed by a distinguished American Psychologist, Dr.
George Selleck, who is also a long-term advisor with EduSports. Leading2Play puts children in charge of designing, leading, and engaging their peers in sports and fitness activities, and develop their leadership and sports skills.
The MILES program exposes students to multiple sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Throwball, Frisbee, Touch Rugby, Kabbadi and other indigenous games.
EduSports has been instrumental in making a fundamental change to the education system by getting schools to adopt a curriculum-based, age-appropriate and structured Physical Education (PE) and sports program.
Working with over 650 schools and covering over five lakh children, EduSports has successfully implemented an inclusive and positive sporting experience across the country.
With their strong understanding of sports and PE, they are constantly innovating by developing new products for enhancing the sports experience for children.
The launch of MILES program for older students in middle-high schools and colleges is a step further in that direction that helps college students improve their interpersonal and leadership skills and make them career and life ready.
EduSports aims to target over 10,000 students and plans to partner with over 50 schools and colleges in next 12 to 18 months.
"We are extremely happy to offer another pioneering sports program, which focuses on 'beyond the physicality' of sports and reaches out to a very large community of teenagers and adolescent students who are increasingly getting disengaged from the idea of sport in our school system.
Through MILES we intend to make students to re-engage with sport at a life-style level, and make them future-ready by developing their social-emotional skills and fitness levels," said Co-founder and Business Head at EduSports, Parminder Gill.
"We are proud to be India's 1st B-School to integrate sports activity into management skill development with EduSports.
Corporations expect our students to work hard for long hours, be adaptable, resilient and flexible with leadership and team building skills.
What better way than to get them to play sports and learn these skills on a daily basis," said Chairman Universal Business School, Gurdip Singh Anand.
