TYAGARAJA FESTIVAL |
Tyagaraja was a South Indian composer and saint born in 1767 at Tiruvaiyaru, about 13 km. from Tanjore. Well-known for many Telugu songs that were composed in praise of Rama, his life is a source of great inspiration to young poets and musicians.
In his memory, musicians gather at the composer’s memorial and sing. Young artists believe that they would be blessed with a melodious voice if they smear the shrine with honey and sing Tyagaraja’s songs.
