Food quality: Govt. assures action, says not all SAI centers face problems

New Delhi [India], Feb. 17 : In the wake of the complaints being made about the quality of food served in the mess of Sports Authority of India (SAI) sports hostel in Chennai, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Friday said that his ministry would look into the matter, adding one such complaint doesn't mean that problem persists at all the centers.

"First of all, this is not in my knowledge. Secondly, it's a very small thing. SAI and Sports Ministry are very big. If a player complains about one such incident, it doesn't mean the same is happening everywhere," Goel told ANI.

"But still as soon as such complaints come to our knowledge, we try to work on it and take appropriate measures.

And we will do so in this case as well," he added. Recently, there have been complaints about the quality of food served in the mess and also a lower-than-sanctioned supply of dry fruits, fruits and packaged juices at SAI centre in Chennai.

According to reports, aspiring athletes in a SAI sports hostel are also getting half of their allotted quota of dry fruits.

There have been allegations that not just food, even the equipment the athletes get is sub-standard..
