New Delhi, Oct 1 : Google Doodle on Tuesday honoured noted American psychiatrist Herbert Kleber on the 23rd anniversary of his election to the National Academy of Medicine, earlier known as the Institute of Medicine.
Born on June 19, 1934 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the USA, Kleber was a psychiatrist and substance abuse researcher.
In 1996, Kleber was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science.
Google created doodle, which showed Kleber with a notepad in hand sitting across from a woman, who assumed to be a patient.
In 1968, Kleber set up the Drug Dependence Unit at Yale University, where he was a professor of psychiatry.
He headed the Unit until 1989.
He also co-founded the National Policy Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, which is now the leading US science-based non-profit organisation, dedicated to changing how America addresses addiction.
Over his 50-year career, Kleber authored hundreds of articles, wrote several books and served as mentor to other medical professionals.
He passed away on October 5, 2018, at the age of 84.
