Christchurch [New Zealand], Nov.17 : The opening day's play of the first Test between New Zealand and Pakistan has been washed out without a ball being bowled after persistent rain left the outfield too wet at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on Thursday.
However, the weather is expected to clear on Friday and remain fine for the rest of the match. Play is now scheduled to start 30 minutes early on the second day, when the toss will be made. Jeet Raval, who was about to make his Test debut today, will now have to wait a little longer for his first taste of cricket's longest format of the game.
While Pakistan will aim to continue their recent winning momentum, New Zealand will look to bounce back following their humiliating three-match Test series whitewash at the hands of India.
Earlier, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit Christchurch and other adjoining areas during the three-day tour game between the two sides in Nelson ahead of the first Test.
