ISRO getting ready low-cost launch vehicles

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 31 : The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is readying low-cost satellite launch vehicles that will cost about Rs 30-35 crore each, and which can put into orbit satellites weighing 500 kg, said a top ISRO official, here, Friday.

The first such launch is expected to take place in the next four months.

Haridas Deputy Director, VSSC (The ISRO unit here) revealed this while taking part at the Space Conclave, held here.

"This capability will give ISRO a big commercial boost as it will be able to cater to micro, mini and medium segments of the market.



"The ISRO will be able to manufacture these vehicles in a turnaround time of just three weeks," said Haridas.

ISRO has earmarked (Dollar) 1,600 million for launch vehicles of which (Dollar) 870 million will be for PSLV and the remaining for GSLV, he added.
