Jammu Police arrest five, busts LeT module in Doda

Jammu and Kashmir [India], May 13 : Jammu Police on Saturday confirmed that they had arrested five persons and busted a Lakshar-e-Taiba (LeT) module, following the May 7 attack on a police station on Tanta Doda district.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu) Dr. S.D. Singh, who confirmed the news of the arrests, informed media that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of five senior officers has been formed to interrogate the suspects for more information on their operations.

The SIT consists of Additional Superintendent of Police of Bhaderwah Shazaad Salaria, SDPO Gandoh Sunny Gupta, Inspector Manjeet Singh and Inspector Tahir Yousaf, SHO P/S Gandoh which was to function under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Doda Mohammad Shabir.

So far, the SIT has picked up local suspects, including one Abdul Rashid Harga, a surrendered former LeT militant.

After sustained interrogation, Harga confessed to his involvement in the firing incident and disclosed the name of two of his associates, namely his younger brother, Shoket Ali, and Akhtar Magary.

Sustained interrogation of the trio has revealed the entire chain of events leading to the attack on the police picket.

It turned out that Harga was in contact with Bashir Ahmad who was earlier working in the 139 TA Battalion in Thatri.

Bashir Ahmad asked his nephew Altaf Ahmad, who is working as an SPO in the police department in Doda district, to arrange a weapon for him.

The Police Post Tanta was attacked on the night of May 7..
