No more amendments to Motor Vehicles Act: Govt

New Delhi, Nov 21 : The government told the Lok Sabha on Thursday that it has no plans to bring more amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act while confirming that road accidents and fatalities have reduced.

This was stated by Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, while replying to a question from CPI MP M.

Selvaraj.

Gadkari said the ministry has not received any information from any state that they are not implementing the provisions of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Citing statistics, Gadkari said in September-October, 2018, Uttar Pradesh saw 1,503 road fatalities while in the same period in 2019, the figure came down by 9.8 per cent to 1,355.

Gujarat saw a 13.8 per cent reduction in fatalities from 557 to 480, while in Bihar there were 411 deaths, down by 10.5 per cent, from 459 in September-October, 2018, he said.
