New Delhi [India], Nov. 28 : The opposition parties on Monday decided to demand an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remark that they are upset over the demonetisation drive as they did not get time to convert their black money.
Sources said this was decided by the opposition in the meeting held earlier today in Parliament. Justifying his decision, Prime Minister had earlier in an event to mark Constitution Day earlier on Friday said the people questioning his move were those who didn't get time to make any preparation.
"I think the pain of such people is that the government did not give a chance (to them) to make any preparation.
These same people would have lavished praise on him if they had got 72 hours to make their preparations," he said.
The Prime Minister's comments provoked protests from the opposition in Parliament. Meanwhile, the opposition parties have called for a countrywide protest today against what they call the government's "mishandling" of the currency ban.
The Congress, Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have said they do not support a bandh but will continue their protests in Parliament and on the streets.
Only the Left Front, which has a presence in Kerala, Bengal and Tripura, has called for a strike or 'Bharat Bandh' in the three states.
