Dhaka, Aug.19 : Police on Friday claimed to have detained 18 leaders and activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, the Islami Chhatra Shibir, during a raid in Merul Badda area of Bangladesh's Dhaka city.
"They were detained while holding a clandestine meeting at house no. 8 in Merul Badda," the Daily Star quoted Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Badda Police Station as saying.
He added that the police conducted the raid acting on a tip-off that some criminals were holding meeting in the area for creating chaos.
The security in the country has been stepped up following the recent militant attacks to counter anti-state activities.
