Post termination, Comey writes farewell letter to friends, agents

Washington D.C. [U.S.A.], May 11 : A day after he was fired by United States President Donald Trump over not being "able to effectively lead the bureau," former FBI director James Comey sent out a letter to his friends and other agents.

Comey, in the letter, said that he would be fine and would not spend time thinking about the decision or the way it was executed, CNN reports.

The letter, obtained by the CNN, is as follows: "To all I have long believed that a President can fire an FBI Director for any reason, or for no reason at all.

I'm not going to spend time on the decision or the way it was executed. I hope you won't either. It is done, and I will be fine, although I will miss you and the mission deeply. I have said to you before that, in times of turbulence, the American people should see the FBI as a rock of competence, honesty, and independence.

What makes leaving the FBI hard is the nature and quality of its people, who together make it that rock for America.

It is very hard to leave a group of people who are committed only to doing the right thing. My hope is that you will continue to live our values and the mission of protecting the American people and upholding the Constitution.

If you do that, you too will be sad when you leave, and the American people will be safer. Working with you has been one of the great joys of my life. Thank you for that gift. Jim Comey" Earlier, in a bid to sweep away the man who is responsible for an investigation into whether members of Donald Trump's campaign team colluded with Russia in its interference in last year's elections, the U.S.

President fired Comey. In a signed letter, Trump informed Comey that he was "hereby terminated and removed from office, effective immediately," explaining that he reached the conclusion that Comey was "not able to effectively lead the bureau," CNN reported.

"It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission," the letter added.

"I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.".
