Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug.13 : Indian boxer Vikas Krishan remained on course to hand the country an elusive Olympic medal as he stormed into the quarter-finals of the men's middleweight 75 kg event after knocking down Turkey's Onder Sipal 3-0 here in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
The 24-year-old, who is a 2014 Asian Games Bronze medallist, continued his dominant run as he registered a comfortable 30-27, 29-28, 29-28 win in three rounds of the second preliminary bout.
Krishnan, who hails from Haryana's Hisar district, had earlier kicked off his boxing campaign with a crushing win against 18-year-old debutant Charles Conwell of USA in the opening preliminary bout.
Vikas will now return in action on August 16 when he takes on 20-year-old Melikuziev Bektemir of Uzbekistan.
