Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug.11 : Indian archer Deepika Kumari progressed through to the round of 32 of the women's individual event after sweeping aside Georgia's Kristine Esebua 6-4 here at Rio Olympics on Thursday.
The 22-year-old from Ranchi produced an imperious form in the first three sets of the match before she faltered slightly in the fourth set.
Deepika, however, managed to bounce back strongly to register a 27-26, 29-29, 30-27, 27-29, 29-29 win over the Georgian international in the thrilling five sets of the last-32 eliminator round.
The former world number one will now take on Italian international Guendalina Sartori in the round of 32.
Earlier, the Indian archery trio of Deepika, Laxmirani Majhi and Bombayla Devi bowed out of women's recurve team event after going down 4-5 against Russia in their nail-biting quarter-final clash on Sunday.
