Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Aug 12 : Putting aside the disappointment of their early ouster from their respective doubles event, India's Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna produced a much-improved performance to reach the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles tennis tournament at the Rio Olympics.
The fourth-seeded pair claimed a 7-5, 6-4 win over Australian duo of Samantha Stosur and John Peers in a gripping contest that lasted one hour and 13 minutes at the Olympic Tennis Centre.
Bopanna and Mirza will next face Great Britain's Andy Murray and Heather Watson in the quarterfinals. In the 2012 London Olympics, the Indian pair of Sania and Leander Paes had also reached the quarterfinals, before going down to eventual champions Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi of Belarus.
