Washington D.C. [United States], Apr. 4 : White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced that United States President Donald Trump has preferred to donate his first-quarter salary that is USD 78,333, to the National Park Service.
"The President has spoken with Counsel and made the decision to donate his first-quarter salary, in total, to a government entity, and he has chosen this quarter to donate it to the National Park Service," Spicer said in a press briefing on Monday.
He said the President is personally proud to contribute the first quarter of his salary to the important mission of the Park Service, which is preserving our country's national security.
Spicer presented a check of (Dollar) 78,333 on behalf of Trump to the Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke, and Superintendent of the Harper's Ferry Park site, Superintendent Brandyburg.
He said the donation will include every penny that the President received from the first quarter since the day being elected as U.S.
President. Zinke said he was thrilled at the President's decision to donate the cheque he did today. " I did talk to the President last night, and he has decided, as you know, to donate his entire quarter salary," he said.
Zinke said the donation will go into maintaining historic battlefield sites. "We're about (Dollar) 100 [million] or (Dollar) 229 million behind in deferred maintenance on our battlefields alone, and that's on our 25 national battlefields.
And we're excited about that opportunity," he added. Trump had said during the presidential campaign that he would not accept a salary if he won the White House.
Spicer had earlier announced that Trump would donate his salary by this year's end and had also asked the media to help him in deciding where the donations should go.
