U.S. soldier arrested on suspicion of having ties with ISIS

Hawaii [United States], July 11 : A U.S. soldier based in Hawaii was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over the weekend on suspicion of terrorism and ties with the Islamic State terror group.

According to local media reports, an FBI SWAT team at the Schofield Barracks in Honolulu arrested Ikaika Kang, who is posted with the 25th Infantry Division late Saturday night.

However, the FBI is considering that Kang was not associated with others who may pose a security threat to Hawaii.

Kang was an air traffic control operator at Wheeler Army Airfield. FBI Special Agent in Charge Paul D. Delacourt said that Kang was under investigation by the U.S. Army and the FBI for over a year. He had reportedly attempted to provide military documents to ISIS and was also trying to provide training to the terrorist organisation.
