London [England], Sept.29 : Striker Theo Walcott struck two first-half goals as Arsenal produced a rampant home display to seal a 2-0 win over Basel in their Champions League Group A match at Emirates Stadium on Thursday.
It took Arsene Wenger's side just seven minutes to open their account when Walcott headed in from Alexis Sanchez's cutback.
In the 28th minute, the 27-year-old scored the second goal to put the home side in the driver's seat, the Guardian reported.
The match also saw Basel goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik make some good saves by denying Luis Sanchez and Hector Bellerin to score goals.
In group D clash, Bayern Munich suffered their first defeat under new coach Carlo Ancelotti when they were beaten 0-1 at the hands of Atletico Madrid at Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Arsenal will lock horns with Ludogorets while Bayern Munich will take on PSV Eindhoven in their next Champions League group clash on October 20.
